On The Second Day of Christmas we read Katie the Candy Cane Fairy and the kids made a connection to The Grinch about how the main characters changed and learned a lesson. The students found that Katie and her sisters realized it wasn't the stripes on their candy canes that made them produce an amazing Christmas show, but the love for entertaining their audience and making the holiday special that really mattered. This was much like the Grinch realizing that Christmas for the Who's in Whoville was not about the presents, but about love, caring and friendship!
We also played a fun little game with candy canes and the following story. Each time I said "left" or "right" they had to pass the cane that way. They enjoyed a sweet treat at the end!

Of course we had to take a class selfie with our candy canes!
On The Third Day of Christmas, we read (2 different versions of) The Elves and the Shoemaker. We wrote summaries of the story and then recorded a video of ourselves reading our summaries that were uploaded to Seesaw. Seesaw is closed to our classroom families, but if you are in our class and you haven't been connected to Seesaw yet, please email me so I can get you signed up! Watching the kids create these little videos make my heart happy!
On the Third Day of Christmas, I think the kids had the most fun of all so far! Today was Gingerbread Man day!
We read Gingerbread Baby and Gingerbread Friends. When we got to the end of Gingerbread Friends, we found a note inside from the gingerbread men!! The note also had a clue on where we'd actually find the gingerbread men. We walked in the most quiet and respectful way we could possibly walk down to the cafeteria.
Next, we ended up at the front door, back toward the gym at the drinking fountain, back up to the office and then to the media center where I rounded them up for a quick selfie before we continued on!
Another stop at the art room and we were ready to head back to our classroom. When we came in we found a few containers of gingerbread men cookies and some icing sitting right in the middle of the room! S-U-C-C-E-S-S!! We found them!
After tracking them down and then carefully icing them, it was FINALLY time to eat them! This was the first time several of the kids have had actual gingerbread and they loved them! We also worked on recording story elements (characters, setting, problem, solution) of one of the stories, and then comparing and contrasting the two stories!
Looking forward to the next 8 days (well, technically 11 days of school)!
