Jitter juice
So this year I decided we should wash down those last few jitters with some yummy Jitter Juice after reading the book! The kids enjoyed a toast and then BAM! Those jitters were all gone!

On my drive this morning, I thought, "Man, school is a pretty cool thing!" Where else do you get to start fresh and new every single year!!?? It's exciting, nerve-wracking, and exhausting all at the same time! I've started 15 school years as a teacher and I have to say this year I'm still filled with just as much of all of those emotions as the very first year! Being a teacher on the first day of school is much like becoming a parent! In just moments you move from being strangers with this new little human to calling them one of your own! Parents, today you officially passed the baton to me and your most precious little people became "my kids"! We're going to have a GREAT year together! Jitter juiceFirst Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg is a classic First Day of School book in my classroom! Sarah Jane Hartwell DOES NOT want to go to her new school on the first day! She does a few things to try to get out of it, but that pesky Mr. Hartwell stays on her and she eventually goes to school. Talk to your 3rd grader about the secret that comes out at the end of the story about Sarah Jane! So this year I decided we should wash down those last few jitters with some yummy Jitter Juice after reading the book! The kids enjoyed a toast and then BAM! Those jitters were all gone! GratitudeI'm a big believer in acknowledging gratitude in my life, especially when things seem tough (I've used this technique in many of my races when I feel as though I can't force another pedal stroke or take another step). It's amazing how recognizing something positive in your life can change your outlook! This year I want to take a few minutes at the end of each day with the kids and have them share their gratitude for the day. Today we shared verbally, sometimes I might have them write them down or just keep their gratitude in their head and heart. Almost all of the kids shared in their own words their gratitude for being back at Eagle lake with their friends, old and new! We had some extra outside time today where I was able to capture most of my kiddos enjoying this beautiful fall day with their friends! Queen of selfiesMy friends call me the Queen of Selfies because I'm always documenting a fun time with a selfie! I even bought a new selfie stick this summer so we can fit the whole class in a picture (although some in the back were too short and need to work on actually getting in the shot! Hahaha!).
