Lights out!
The student council came up with a fun idea this year to do a "Lights Out" day on Halloween where we keep the lights off all day. This works well in my room because I have so many lamps! This is why it seems kind of dark in the pictures! The kids also brought flashlights which they used if they needed some extra light while reading or doing work.
Pumpkins!
For the last week we've been researching pumpkins and writing our first Informational Writing piece. The kids have learned all about how pumpkins grow, what they're like, and what people do with pumpkins! This is how we took our notes:
We also spent a good amount of time exploring pumpkins. We learned that they come in all shapes, sizes and colors. They also have a variety of amounts of seeds inside! First, the kids made predictions for their group's pumpkin circumference, weight and number of seeds. Then we opened them up and they dug out the guts and counted the seeds. The kids found that when they put them in groups of 10 they could count them quickly!
The last of our senses we had to use on our pumpkins was taste! So we made Pumpkin Pie Cake.
Almost all of the kids really loved this treat! For some of them pumpkin was a new taste!
Sorry about the blurr....I think it was because the lights were off!
